Weekly status report

The one to two pages a project owner actually reads on a Thursday: where the project stands and why, what changed since last week, the milestones, the open points ordered by how long they have been open, the decisions taken and the ones still needed, and the risks with what would trigger them. Fill it in once; next week, roll it forward and edit what moved.

Project and week

Required — it goes in the running header.

Required.

Where the project stands

Required.

A status without a reason is a colour. This field is required for that reason.

Required — the reason is the report.

Milestones

Planned is the baseline date; forecast is what you believe today. A milestone whose forecast moved is the thing this report exists to say.

Open points

Ordered by age on the report — the oldest first, because that is the one somebody is avoiding.

Decisions taken this week

One line each: what was decided, and by whom.

Decisions still needed

What is waiting on whom, and what it is blocking.

Risks

A risk is something that has not happened yet, with the thing that would tell you it has.

Next week
Moves the week on by one, clears what changed and the decisions taken, and keeps everything else for editing.
